Weekly Activities
November 2, 2015: Posillico, National Grid’s Remediation Contractor, has cleared the barrier wall alignment of obstructions and has also uncovered the tunnel that connected the bulkhead area to the main Former MGP site. After inspecting the tunnel for stability, Posillico cut through the wing walls and floor of the section that passes through the barrier wall alignment and removed the resulting debris to ensure ease of sheet pile installation. Posillico has also mobilized the sheet pile drill rig and barrier wall sheet piles to the bulkhead area in preparation for installation. Towards the end of the week, Posillico began drilling along the barrier wall alignment to the full 70-ft depth to further clear any potential obstructions.
CAMP data is reviewed and compared to specific NYSDEC/NYSDOH approved criteria, known as “Action Limits.” As a result of this evaluation process, site conditions are categorized into two categories, “Operational Condition” and “Action Condition.” The “Operational Condition” is applicable when the data is below the “Alert, Response and Action Limits”, and means that normal operations can continue. The “Action Condition” occurs when one or more of the fifteen minute average measurements for Dust (PM10), Total Volatile Organic Compounds (TVOC) or Odor Intensity are greater than the background or upwind measurement by the specified “Action Limits.” Reaching an Action Level requires corrective action or stopping work until the condition is addressed or abates. During the period from Monday, November 2, 2015 through Friday, November 6, 2015, four portable CAMP stations were in-use and measured TVOC and PM10. Fifteen-minute averages for TVOC and PM10 data remained below the Action Limit.
For the week of November 9, 2015, Posillico will continue drilling along the barrier wall alignment and preparing the equipment for driving sheets. Once the alignment has been cleared of potential obstructions, Posillico will begin barrier wall installation.
