Weekly Activities

December 7, 2015: Sheet pile installation has resumed at the eastern end of the barrier wall alignment. All remaining sheet piles have been moved from the MGP site to the Bulkhead Area in preparation for installation. As of December 11, 2015, Posillico has installed a total of 28 sheet piles to approximately 3 to 5 feet above final grade. These sheet piles will eventually be driven to the final grade once more sheet piles have been installed.

CAMP data is reviewed and compared to specific NYSDEC/NYSDOH approved criteria, known as “Action Limits.” As a result of this evaluation process, site conditions are categorized into two categories, “Operational Condition” and “Action Condition.” The “Operational Condition” is applicable when the data is below the “Alert, Response and Action Limits”, and means that normal operations can continue. The “Action Condition” occurs when one or more of the fifteen minute average measurements for Dust (PM10), Total Volatile Organic Compounds (TVOC) or Odor Intensity are greater than the background or upwind measurement by the specified “Action Limits.” Reaching an Action Level requires corrective action, or stopping work until the condition is addressed or abates. During the period from Monday, December 7, 2015 through Friday, December 11, 2015, four portable CAMP stations were in-use and measured TVOC and PM10. During the report period TVOC concentrations remained below the Action Limit. However, there were 15-minute average PM10 concentrations greater than the Action Limit on Monday, December 7 at three of the four portable stations. The elevated PM10 concentrations were caused by high regional background concentrations and after accounting for this elevated background the elevated concentrations were reduced below the Action Level. Only a few PM10 concentrations remained above the Response Level. Therefore, the Site remained in the “Operational Condition and Response Condition”.

For the week of December 14, 2015, sheet pile installation and drilling for obstructions along the barrier wall alignment will continue. The joints of the installed sheet piles will be flushed with water to prepare for grouting.
