Weekly Activities

January 4, 2016: Due to the closure of Beach Channel Drive by the DOT, all intrusive work was discontinued on January 4, 2016. Work that has continued includes surveying the sheets installed to date and flushing the joints of the installed sheet piles to remove any debris in the interlocks.

CAMP data is reviewed and compared to specific NYSDEC/NYSDOH approved criteria, known as “Action Limits.” As a result of this evaluation process, site conditions are categorized into two categories, “Operational Condition” and “Action Condition.” The “Operational Condition” is applicable when the data is below the “Alert, Response and Action Limits”, and means that normal operations can continue. The “Action Condition” occurs when one or more of the fifteen minute average measurements for Dust (PM10), Total Volatile Organic Compounds (TVOC) or Odor Intensity are greater than the background or upwind measurement by the specified “Action Limits.” Reaching an Action Level requires corrective action or stopping work until the condition is addressed or abates. During the period from Monday, January 4, 2016 through Friday, January 8, 2016, four portable CAMP stations were in-use and measured TVOC and PM10. Fifteen-minute averages for PM10 and TVOC data remained below the Action Limit.

For the week of January 11, 2016, Posillico will finish flushing the sheet joints, backfill and stabilize the area around the sheet pile alignment, move the jersey barriers out of the roadway and onto the bulkhead property, and demobilize from the site. Soil borings will also be completed along the barrier wall alignment to find the optimal locations for the recovery wells that will be installed at a later date.
